Are Charlton Athletic ready for the 2026-27 Championship season? We are about to find out over the next nine months.

The Addicks finished 19th in the previous campaign but the bookies believe they are one of the clubs that are going to be in drop danger.

South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition has decided to gauge the opinion of supporters.

As well as my verdict on what lies ahead for the Addicks, I’ve also selected the following people to tackle a list of questions and predictions.

They are:

  • Rick Everitt (a Charlton fan since 1969 and editor of Voice of The Valley fanzine)

  • Tom Wallin (a regular contributor to Charlton Live)

  • Charlie Brazil (vlogger whose Braziliance channel can be found on YouTube)

  • Louis Mendez (pod host for this website and Charlton Live, as well as Charlton reporter for BBC London Sport)

  • Simon Newport (Chicago Addick blog)

Please leave your comments too at the bottom of this article. Including any predictions!

Mood heading into the 2026-27 season?

Rick Everitt: Hopeful that the team can continue to re-establish itself in the Championship but doubtful there is a deliverable long-term vision for the club.

Tom Wallin: Generally I’m excited for football to start again. The routine of heading down to the Valley every other week is one I love, and it feels like it’s been a long summer without it. It’s going to be another tough season, but I think we have enough in us to stay up. The league is tougher than last year, and the money sloshing around it is crazy, but I’m positive about what we might be able to achieve.

Charlie Brazil: I’m excited, optimistic but also a bit nervous, because a lot of teams struggle in their second season in the Championship. In that first one you tend to have momentum and you’re used to winning. But with the bad finish we had to last season, three wins in 15 games, that momentum is sort of gone.

Louis Mendez: I’m a little bit wary. The way we ended last season highlights how difficult this division can be. But, as always at this time of the season, I’m excited to see how we get on. Considering what challenges will probably face us, and it will likely be another bottom-half of the Championship season, I’m always a touch nervous about where we will land. It might take a little bit of time to get up to speed with the new formation.
