The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been in existence since 1917. This program is designed to provide diverse support for women who are pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States of America.
The AAUW is mandatory for women who are not U.S Citizens or permanent residents, and who are willing to return to their home of origin to pursue a professional career.

American Association of University Women: Award Amount
The American Association of University Women fellowship award provides applicants with funding and other benefits.
The program provides applicants with Master’s/First professional degree an amount of $20,000.
Applicants offering Doctoral an amount of $25,000 and Postdoctoral with $50,000.
Timeline
The American Association of University Women program opened on September 3, 2024 and closes on November 15, 2024 by 11:59 pm PST.
Applicants should receive notification of decisions emailed on April 15, 2025. Note that the AAUW will not honor requests for earlier notification.
The fellowship is scheduled to commenced on July 1, 2025 through to June 30, 2026.
Eligibility
To be part of the American Association of University Women program, applicants must meet the listed criteria to be eligible.
- Applicants must be or identify as a woman.
- Applicants must be pursuing their first master’s, professional or academic doctorate degree. Examples of master’s and professional degrees include but are not limited to J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., or medical degrees such as M.D., D.D.S., etc. Examples of academic doctorate degrees include but are not limited to Ph.D. or Ed.D.
- Applicants must an academic degree holder (earned in the U.S. or abroad) equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- It is required that applicants pursuer their stud in the U.S on full-time basis in a U.S Department of Education accredited institution.
- Applicants must reside in the country of their studies for the duration of the fellowship period.
- Applicants intending to study in another country other than their own or the U.S. must be members of Graduate
- Women International. (Foreign branches of U.S. institutions are considered outside of the U.S.)
- Applicants interested in pursuing postdoctoral studies are encouraged to consider AAUW’s International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.
You application will be disqualified if:
- Members of the AAUW Board of Directors
- Employees of AAUW, including paid or unpaid, part-time or temporary employees, consultants, interns and contract employees.
- Review Panelists
- Immediate families (i.e., spouses and dependent children) of individuals described in the points above
