President-elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump on Wednesday announced Matt Gaet as his pick for Attorney General.
A move to that is reported as an unexpected pick by the newly elected president. It is said that not even the Republican members of the House expected Matt Gaetz to be picked for the Attorney General position.
The Controversies Surrounding Matt Gaetz’s Nomination
Despite being an astute lawmaker, Matt Gaetz doesn’t have any law background you would expect of someone to occupy such a delicate position. This is unusual as the position has always been occupied by experienced lawyers or judges.
Also, as a Republican congressman representing Florida, Matt Gaetz has been a supporter of President Trump and his involvement in various scandals and controversies.
His selection therefore is being criticized as another move by Donald Trump to give his loyalists important public offices. Especially, because Matt Gaetz is neither a judge nor a lawyer.
His selection was first announced by president-elect in a Truth Social. Unlike many others who doubt the capabilities of Matt, Trump said he is the man to count on for the reforms he foresees.
“Matt Gaetz has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump said.
