Green Week: “No, they can actually go shopping themselves”

There is a lot to discover and learn at Green Week. Here and there you can get something for free. And sometimes you have to disagree.

C
hristian Specht, born in 1969, is politically active and advocates for more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the media. Since 2017 he has been the first person with a disability on the board of Lebenshilfe Berlin. If he wants, he can draw us the “woodpecker of the week”

The picture shows a farm with two apples. I was at Green Week last week. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture always has a stand there. They told interesting things there. For example, bananas change when you put them next to apples. They then become dark. I didn’t know that at all, it was completely new to me. And you could also try a slice of the bananas.

When Cem Özdemir was still Minister of Agriculture, bread was always distributed from the stand to the spectators. Otherwise, Green Week can be very expensive. Things aren’t always free.

Getting through Green Week with a walker is also quite difficult. I think there should be a day where only people with disabilities are allowed in. That would be easier.

Sometimes stores have leftover food. At one stand you could guess where the food was going, for example to the Bundeswehr. Then I said: “No, actually they can go shopping and take care of themselves. Other people can’t do that themselves. Just imagine, we get into a crisis and some people don’t have any food in the fridge.”

Then I won a board on which you can cut tomatoes. And I got a new chocolate that isn’t available in stores yet, one with nougat.

I was also in the animal hall. So Green Week only lasted until last Sunday. But imagine if it lasted even longer. It’s quite tiring for the animals – all week long at Green Week! Are they calming down or not? And who cares that they can relax too?
