In Davos, the US President and his son-in-law unveil their reconstruction plan for Gaza. But life there is still a nightmare.
M With the so-called Peace Council, US President Donald Trump wants to make his gilded court in Mar-a-Lago the principle of his foreign policy. It is, how could it be otherwise, primarily about business deals and making money.
This also fits in with the vision of the future that his son-in-law Jared Kushner presented on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, including images that look like an AI-generated Dubai. While Trump praised Gaza’s location value and ocean views, Kushner described his own stance as “very entrepreneurial.”
Trump apparently has big plans for his “Board of Peace”. Meanwhile, Gaza resembles an apocalyptic nightmare. Since the beginning of the non-peace agreement in October Israel blew up over 2,500 buildings. The bombed-out population lives there in muddy tent camps in rain and wind, where diseases spread rapidly. Israel is still not allowing enough aid into Gaza and is now banning 37 humanitarian NGOs from working there.
The So war against the population continues – as well as the attacks on those who document it. Just on Wednesday, the Israeli army killed three journalists Anas Ghunaim, Abdul Ra’ouf Shaath and Mohammad Qeshta, who, according to reports, were traveling in a car marked with the logo of an Egyptian NGO.
It hardly helps that the Bulgarian Nikolaj Mladenov is an experienced UN diplomat takes over the negotiationswho has contacts in Israel as well as with the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. It’s not just the Islamist group that continues to operate in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is also doing everything he can to prevent the peace plan from progressing. The influx to Hamas and other militant groups is unlikely to dry up as long as Israel does not agree or is forced to enable the Palestinians to live a life of self-determination. An AI-generated dream world is certainly no substitute for a just peace.
