American rapper, Jeffery Lemar Williams professionally known as Young Thug ha svn been released from police custody. This is after he pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against him.
So, Young Thug had his possible 45-year sentence reduced to 15 years. The Rolling Stone even reported he could have faced up to 120 years, maximum.
He faces 15 years of probation on Thursday, October, 31. The judgement ended the longest criminal trial in Georgia’s history.
This comes after Young Thug entered into a plea deal with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Young Thug had spent more than 900 days behind bars. He was arrested for racketeering and gang-related charges.
Prosecutors alleged in May 2022 that the rapper used his rap record label as a decoy label for an organised crime syndicate. Â This organisation was responsible for 75% to 80% of violent crimes in Atlanta.
Young Thug was arrested together with together with 27 others. The list also includes collegue rapper, Gunna.  They were charged with violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act ( RICO).

They are either members or associated with an alleged street gang, the Young Slime Life (YSL). The members are accused of committing several crimes, including murder, armed robbery, dealing drugs and carjacking.
Again, six more felony charges against Young Thug in August 2022. The second indictment alleges that Young Thug was connected to the kill!ng of Donovan Thomas Jr. Donovan was a rival gang member who died in a January 2015 shooting. Prosecutors allege that Young Thug Williams rented the vehicle that was used in the shooting.
After months of legal battles, Young Thug pleaded guilty to several charges, including three drug charges, two gun charges and one gang charge.
He also pleaded no contest to the racketeering conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang in a leadership role, charges. This means that even though he did not plead guilty, he did not wish to contest the charges. he probably wanted the legal tussle so that he would return to business as a musician.
In a five-minute speech, Young Thug said;
” I take full responsibility for my crimes, for my charges. To really everybody that has got something to do with this situation, I want to say sorry.” Young told the court.
Young Thug mentioned that he is a good person who has found himself “in a lot of stuff because I was just nice or cool”.
Meanwhile, he admitted that he can’t continue living his life the way he has been living because of his status.
“And I understand that you can’t be that way when you reach a certain height because it could end bad… and it could fall on you.” he added.
Apart from the sentence, Young Thug will serve a stipulated 100 hours of community service, a ban on contact with gang members or former co-defendants, and a prohibition from remaining in the metropolitan Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his 15-year probation. The later however has exceptions to special circumstances such as as weddings, funerals and the anti-gang and anti-gun presentations.
