After the coalition attempt with Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW there was a break. Now Prime Minister Woidke (SPD) wants to form a coalition with the CDU.
afp/dpa | After the breakup of the coalition between the SPD and BSW in Brandenburg, the Social Democrats and CDU want to “quickly” begin negotiations on a government alliance in the state. The general secretaries of the two parties, Kurt Fischer (SPD) and Gordon Hoffmann (CDU), announced this on Friday in Potsdam. Exploratory talks between negotiators from both sides were successful and in a constructive atmosphere.
The negotiators would therefore suggest to their respective party committees “the start of official coalition negotiations,” explained Fischer and Hoffmann. The SPD and CDU agree that Brandenburg should get a new government coalition “soon”. However, the discussions should be “carried out thoroughly and with the necessary calm”.
The SPD, led by Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD), ended its coalition with the BSW on Tuesday last week after around a year. This was preceded by fundamental conflicts within the BSW over its role in the government. Several members of the state parliament, including Finance Minister Robert Crumbach, who was considered a pillar of the coalition with the SPD, left the BSW and its parliamentary group.
BSW state chief whispers about alleged coup
Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) ended the SPD-BSW coalition last week. Several MPs had previously resigned from the BSW parliamentary group. The group also did not want to make a commitment to the coalition from all MPs.
“The ‘Putsch in Potsdam’ has massively shaken the trust of many people,” explained BSW country director Friederike Benda. The SPD defended the end: “The decline of the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance, which was publicly visible to everyone, the eternal internal strife, marching orders from Saarland for Brandenburg state politics and the toxic behavior among each other in the BSW could no longer be tolerated in the coalition,” said Fischer. BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht lives in Saarland.
Woidke is currently continuing with a minority government and rejects a new election. According to the survey, most Brandenburgers (40 percent) do not want Woidke to resign, while 37 percent are in favor. In Opinion polls The extreme right-wing AfD (34 percent) was recently well ahead of the SPD (25 percent) in Brandenburg. The CDU ranked at 13 percent, followed by the Left (8 percent), BSW (8 percent) and the Greens (5 percent).
