His goal, said the Green youth leader Luis Bobga, was to “reach young people and awaken and support their interest in politics.” What Bobga has achieved in any case: that right-wing conservative commentators and politicians are once again interested in the Green Youth. And that never really means anything good, we remember the ruckus surrounding Bobga’s predecessor Jette Nietzard („All Cops are Bastards“-Pulli im Bundestag).
But from the beginning: Luis Bobga, federal spokesman for the Green Youth together with Henriette Held since October, had on Instagram on Friday published a video in which he wrote the lyrics to a song by the rapper Arrest Warrant: “We’ve already had the idea that you’re a son of a bitch”. A picture of CSU boss Markus Söder is displayed, “with kind regards to Bavaria,” Bobga writes under the post. As you listen further, the short clip is apparently a criticism of Söder’s move last week to reduce the number of federal states.
Bobga, born in Münster, studied migration history in Osnabrück, once played local politics; he sat on the city council in Emsdetten, Westphalia. Maybe Söder’s federal state nonsense triggered him somehow. In any case, the shitstorm didn’t take long to arrive, and the CSU leadership didn’t do so with the obligatory demand to resign: “Anyone who says something like that is no longer acceptable,” said regional group leader Alexander Hoffmann Picture on Sunday.
General Secretary Martin Huber seconded that the Green Party leadership had to apologize and – paraphrasing freely from here – teach their left-wing offspring a few manners. After all, Nietzard had only insulted Söder as a “son of a bitch”.
Sorry “good and right”
On Saturday, Bobga apologized in a statement and said he regretted that the video had apparently distracted from the topic of the federal state initiative. According to dpa, Green Party leader Felix Banaszak found Bobga’s apology “good and right”.
It has not yet been clear whether hypothetical federalism reforms will so electrify the “young people” that Bobga wants to win over to the Greens. The video had around 3,500 likes on Sunday.
It became clear what spin the Picture on Sunday and the Union tried to give the whole affair a shout: “If Democrats treat each other like this, then we can give the keys to the AfD straight away.” That’s what Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn said, who spectacularly ruined the election of a constitutional judge because he couldn’t rally his people behind the SPD candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf. The AfD was laughing up its sleeve at the time.
The Union can therefore discredit the democratic camp in a tried-and-tested, bigoted manner – and the Green Youth is once again providing them with a great opportunity to do so. What is left to notice if the substantive discussion of federalism is not worth it?
Maybe that Hurensohn is, if nothing else, a misogynistic insult. Somehow one had hoped that the youth – Bobga is 23 years old, main topics: social issues and anti-racism – would be further along than a sexist, aging Offenbach rapper with an obvious coke problem.
