M Millions of pages of Epstein files are being diligently sifted through in editorial offices around the world – and luckily there’s something there for us Kiwis. New Zealand finds an impressive 1,081 mentions in the dead pedo criminal’s red-hot file legacy. Now we know that Jeffrey Epstein’s selective cultural funding came close to compromising a literature professor.

Anyone who enters “New Zealand” into the corresponding search engine of the US Department of Justice will come across something banal: bank statements from Epstein’s former partner Ghislaine Maxwell, who invested in a government bond down under in 2009. Or an invitation for the perpetrator couple to accompany Google co-founder Larry Page on a joyride on his New Zealand catamaran. Hot details!

The most explosive discovery in the data chaos, however, is Brian Boyd, retired professor at the University of Auckland. His specialty is Vladimir Nabokov, who wrote the controversial classic in 1955 Lolita wrote. Boyd was currently working on a biography of the Russian author and dreamed of also writing a work about him Lolita when Epstein contacted him and invited him to a meeting in Boston in 2012.

The truth

has three principles:

Why be factual when it can be personal?

Why research when you can write.

Why prove when you can assert.

Therefore white The truth always how far you can go too far.

Epstein’s private plane was nicknamed the “Lolita Express” at the time, and photos show that he liked to write phrases from “Lolita” on his victims’ bodies. The professor allegedly knew nothing about any of this or the allegations of abuse. He had met the “Lolita” fan at his own lecture on Nabokov at Harvard University – as part of a program that was then receiving millions of dollars in funding from Epstein.

Identical

The breakfast meeting took place with Epstein and his five alleged “assistants” – identical-looking, beautiful women around 22 years old. The professor was also treated to two nights in the hotel. Nothing unusual, Boyd thought – that’s how he imagined his life Playboy-Founder Hugh Heffner. “Great to meet you and your beauties,” the 73-year-old wrote enthusiastically to the US tycoon after the appointment.

Financial negotiations then began via email. Epstein wanted to help Boyd with $75,000 so that the academic could take a year off and finally write his longed-for “Lolita” book. “Thanks for the opportunity! Best, Brian,” were his last words – including his account number and Swift code – to the supposed literature lover. But the donation never came.

The food in Boston retroactively annoys the distinguished professor. This week he appeared in headlines and on breakfast television. He emphasizes that he has nothing to blame himself for and is glad that contact has been broken off. It still feels “pretty disgusting”. To this day he has not written the book about “Lolita”.
