Fall Preview in 5 Ideas

It’s that time of year where clients come out of the woodwork and every acquaintance I meet asks “So what are we wearing this fall?”

So this week a brief shopping list of what’s jotted down in my notes app, and what we will style more in depth come September when, god willing, the humidity drops.

THE Boot and Sneaker

I do not mess around when it comes to my fall boot. I am usually behind in choosing a coat and it takes me a month or two to really get into the rhythm of the fall uniform but as a size 8 foot, I get my boot the second I see it and know in my bones it’s the one. This year it’s the Tom Ford moto boot.

It is narrow up the ankle, something I loooooove for under a cropped jean (see: last year’s Prada western which I also bought in August and also will continue to wear all of this winter.) The toe is angular but not harsh and the heel has lift without being so high I can’t walk 10k steps in them. I’m telling you, this is the one.

My Fall Boots. The only purchase I insist on extremely ahead of the weather as a size 8.

The sneaker gets a bit weirder. I did order the Sperry CVO in bone which I plan to swap out for my white in a couple weeks but there is also a “fashion sneaker” speaking to me this fall, which is rare occurrence. I tried explaining this in a group text, since my friends all know I’m a NEVER DESIGNER SNEAKER GAL.

Except!! When the design is so unique, so clearly not a knockoff of an actual sneaker brand sneaker that did it better and first.

Case in point, the Miu Miu bubble sneaker. Which also comes in a mule. If I didn’t have such narrow feet I’d definitely go mule, so maybe that works for you? It will slide right off me, sadly. So I see myself committing to the lace up version as both my weekend/parenting shoe and something that will look weird and fabulous and perfectly throw off my skirts and sweaters. Win win.

Silver, mule, brown. Honestly I cannot pick my favorite which is why they’re still in the cart. I’m leaning silver, but then again, I think I’ll wear brown the most!? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Pink and Red Together

I knew I was onto something when I screengrabbed two pairs of red jeans on two different fashion friends’ Instagram stories. The same week I stopped by the Celine store and was stopped in my tracks when I finally saw this runway look’s neon pink satin work jacket IRL – which they styled back to…what else? Red jeans! Tempered with brown or black leather (as opposed to summer’s canvas) it feels positively autumnal but also fun and not run of the mill “back to school.”

Left: Celine FW26 show, Right: screengrabs from some of my fashionable friends on Instagram

A singlar idea, but like, you get it. Any pink top, any red bottom (but honestly these Gap jeans which are 40% off are a DUH!) black woven belt and black loafer like shoe and basta! How good is a croc sperry!?! Highbrow Brilliant!!!!

The Row Is Putting the Henley UNDER THE T-shirt

Excerpt from The Row’s marketing email last week. I assume we are all on the list and have already seen it. Bahahahah.

Friend of Five Things Melissa VM stopped by to say hello on the morning that The Row’s marketing email featuring this photo above dropped. We both squealed, dissecting how they somehow blew our minds with their layering.

A henley! Under a scoopneck!! Under a souchy V!?!?!?! We love to see it. And also…the scoop neck is back?! Wow. I of course then went onto the greater internet to research cotton henleys and scoopnecks and V-necks. Here’s what I found.

Flore Flore henley, Cos tee, The Row sweater

Oh wait, there’s more! Proof that it’s not that hard to make this fun take on layering work. It just takes figuring out your tolerance for materials to get it all to work in your price range. Like are we going to splurge on the knit? Or perfect scoop neck tee that doesn’t ride too low? Pick your poison.

From left: Cos henley, FdL scoop neck, Reformation knit (actually look at this from Dagmar too!!) Co Collection v-neck sweater, Eileen Fisher scoop neck which I already own and is a great example of a scoop neck that is not tight and doesn’t go too low – a hard balance to find. Big recommend! BR henley which is en route to me and MVM as I think it’s the closest to the original look we will get.

Distressing on medium-dark denim

Not indigo, not a really washed out, summery shade, but a medium-dark denim with dirty distressing – the distressing being the element that lightens them up.

The Row is doing it in a straight, cropped pair that looks perfect for throwing on without a second thought for the daily grind. And Chloe is doing a pair that sits tighter on the hips with a slightly wider crop making them appear as a dressy alternative. I love the faded cuff line near the unfinished him. In fact, I ordered both to try. 😬

A favorite look from Christian Dior FW26

Here are five great options though – chosen for their inseam (I’m just not trying to deal with overly baggy, overly draggy this fall), their wash and their pocket design (or lack thereof.)

From left: The Row which makes my favorite distressing of the moment, J.Crew painter jean, Chloe with the most flattering cut and fun faded cuff detail, Levi’s Vintage Clothing recreation of their 1950s 701, big yes! and Aflalo’s Verne which is the most dressed up of the bunch, and has great distressing on the bum.

Also…not the impossible to get Bode x Levis but not NOT the Bode x Levis!!! Polo jeans. J’adore!

Not Going Away: The Blouson Jacket

Not much to say here other than that last fall’s jacket shape is sticking around thanks to Chanel’s FW26 runway show. It’s available in all prices and all fabrications. There are technical versions that can beat the rain (not to be confused with windbreakers which we will ponder in a few weeks), fashion-y tweeds and silks and classic Baracuta khakis.

Three very different bomber/blouson/whatever you want to call them from Chanel, Tom Ford and Loewe FW26 respectively

And lots more that feel spot on to give your fall just the right proportional pep in your step.

Clockwise from top left: Mango – why is Mango so good these days!? Prada perfection, Ruadh’s not too sweet blush pink, Polo for a lightweight cotton, don’t-even-think easy fall throw on that for some reason is not on Polo but is on Myt?, Lemaire – my absolute dream of a collar and forever on my wishlist, Blaze’s tweed, which if I had to guess I’d say is 6k cheaper than Chanel’s will be. LOL! Arma’s just weird enough burgundy blouson and Nili Lotan’s perfect everyday for when it gets too cold for the Polo at top right.

That’s all for me this week. Happy Sunday!

Yours TRULY,

Becky
