Ahhh, it’s finally cooling off into layering weather. God bless! A perfect time for me to remind you that it is actually not that hard to make a very unique and fun and TeXtUrEd outfit by worrying not about your blazer or your jeans or your skirt, but focusing on finding a fun piece to throw in the middle of the mix. Today, I’m pushing you beyond your white tee and grey knit. Let’s have some fun before we’re too cold to enjoy it all, shall we?
1.Something Sporty
I do not know what came over me when I saw this weird mesh ACG singlet of sorts. But I had to have her. In fact, I’m wearing her right now over a pale pink cou cou tee and J.crew chinos as I write this. It’s so comfy, so weird but also so easy to layer. She was the catalyst for today’s send. Find yourself something sporty. A Knicks jersey maybe? Or this Jordan tie-dye t-shirt below!? and make it your middle layer.
2.Something Fringy Or Sparkly Or Out Of Left Field
I ordered this fringy St. Agni top knowing I would never wear it on it’s own. So including here as a lesson in shopping. I can imagine showing an ecomm photo of this to friends and hearing them say I would never wear that due to its tie back and skimpy straps but here to report that it’s OK to buy something wacky knowing it will never be a stand alone statement.
Naturally she seems fit for a party (even more so than for a cardigan and jeans, though I love that look), so I’m trying her as part of my “tuxedo” and thrilled with the results. Obviously, a full legnth tuxedo jacket would look equally fab.
3.This Perfect Scoop, Perfect Crop Ribbed Tank
I ordered this Hanes x Free People tank to work out in, but as it turns out, it’s the perfect undershirt for when I want to wear my button down open as a jacket, which is very often! It has this v-neck like scoop that is low but not cleavage low, a perfect length to tuck in but not SOOO long it creates bulk at the hips and a fabulous light weight rib – just enough for the bra to slightly peek through, which is what we want!!!
4.A Bright Button Down
I’m adding in a colorful poplin button down this fall. It feels so dynamic and adds polish, even when it’s worn haphazardly, don’t you think? I bought this red one at a vintage store a few months back but this is not a hard thing to procure at many a price point.
The shirt under sweater is also coming back into the rotation this winter, after many winters devoting myself to the sliver of white tee underneath a crewneck. This dusty blue Tory one with a peter pan collar has charmed me with it’s neckline and chalky blue/green.
5.The Only Way I’ve Managed To Wear The Bra Top. But It Works.
The running joke in my fashion week text groups is how much I love to hate on the bra top on the runway…and then bought a bra-ish top. Listen, she doesn’t show any cleavage, and she allows me to still wear a bra underneath her. And if you are going to participate, here are my tips for wearing one as a real life adult human in the wild:
Pair with a super high waist so your most flattering sliver of skin is all that sticks out. And then put a knit on top. There you go! That’s it! It’s actually quite easy and fun once you rip the bandaid off. Happy crop topping!
Yours TRULY,
Becky
