I’ll be there. I hope you will be there too.
Why? Well for one Ojai is a great spot and one of the things that makes it great is the Ojai Playhouse where all the films will be playing.
Two, three of my top docs of the year are all playing there:
-
Alex Gibney’s MUSK
-
Ross McElwee’s REMAKE
-
Rob Moss’ BEND IN THE RIVER
And Vanessa and I had a total blast watching Tamra Davis’ BEST SUMMER EVER and that’s screening too.
Three, I’ve been dying to see:
-
ONCE UPON IN HARLEM
-
YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING
-
THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE
and they are all there. As are many other films I want to see.
But a festival these days needs conversations too, right? This one caught my eye:
Yeah, and this one too looks good:
Wade Gentz, Netflix’s head of U.S. litigation, moderates a conversation with entertainment attorneys Michael Donaldson and Russell Smith, respectively they are the global experts on fair use and representing the BBC against Trump’s $10 billion suit. They’ll cover fair use, defamation, and the legal fights documentary filmmakers face right now. Reserve your seat on the festival website.
Ojai is about 75 minutes from much of LA, traffic permitting. Come up for the morning session and stay for a film that evening. On Thursday, that’s You Can See Everything at 7:00 PM. On Friday, it’s The Best Summer at 7:30 PM, with director Tamra Davis in person.
If you’d like to stay overnight, they have local partners are offering festival rates of 30% off hotel rooms at the beautiful El Roblar and Capri Hotels in downtown Ojai. (Discount code: ODFF30)
You can see the full lineup, schedule, and link to book a discounted room at
Ojai Documentary Film Festival
I hope to see you there.
