Of course, the end will be decided at the negotiating table, which would be the case even in the event of an (unlikely) Ukrainian victory. Germany’s two capitulations were also sealed at the negotiating table.
“Our governments talk about securing a peace that doesn’t exist in ways that are so unacceptable to Russia that peace can never come.”
And Russia is talking about securing a “peace” that doesn’t exist in ways that are so unacceptable for Ukraine (and probably for Eastern Europe as well) that peace can never come. That’s not difficult to understand.
Aside from that…is it really so unfair and inhumane to demand that Russia stop robbing and murdering?
“For almost four years of war, no European government has done anything serious to bring an end to the war. That is an indictment.” There were attempts, but unfortunately all European states are too weak to persuade Russia to make peace. This can be seen as a disgrace, but ultimately this weakness is exactly what all German parties and the majority of Germans wanted…
