Kawhi Leonard’s punishment is small, like laughably small. Not only does he get to play for the Toronto Raptors as if nothing happened, but he was only fined $700,000. No suspension, no contract voided. And since we know Leonard signed endorsement deals worth $66 million with four separate companies, he gets to keep tens of millions of dollars that should have never been his to begin with.
So why did the NBA go so light on Leonard? Well, that’s the interesting part. The NBA’s process was intentionally designed to go soft on Leonard so that the league could inflict maximum pain on Ballmer, likely because he refused to tell the truth.
